Catching my eye: morning A through Z

Here’s what’s caught my eye this morning:

  • I thought that this story was important and I’m glad that Avian Flu Blog has linked to it: there may be an instance of human-to-human transmission in Indonesia.
  • Ur-blogger Steven Den Beste makes a rare appearance to post on the French riots. I think that, for an empiricist, he’s drawing far too many conclusions from far too little data but his appearances with full-fledged posts are rare enough these days to take note of. Hat tip: Baseball Crank.
  • Norm Geras has what seems to me a very significant post on the “incompetency defense”. I opposed the invasion of Iraq so I’m not one of those who feels the need for such a defense. But the post did make me think of another reason to be skeptical about the war (in anticipation): I’m very chary of any project in any sphere of activity which has no salvage value. My life experience is that nothing ever goes just as you plan it.
  • Venomous Kate has the mother of all link dumps. Perhaps a Carnival of the Venomous? Some very interesting links here on history and art.

That’s the lot.
