Catching my eye: morning A through Z

Here’s what’s caught my eye this morning:

  • Alice Banchini, late of Samizdata and now Alice in Texas and on my select blogroll, has split her blog into two blogs both with Alice-y names: Like a Tea-Tray in the Sky (politics, philosophy, etc.) and Down the Rabbit Hole (daily life). I haven’t decided what I’ll do about my blogroll entry. Decisions are sometimes hard for me. I often order the combination plate.
  • What do you give your wife for her birthday? Why, the keys to a top-rated blog, of course. I hope she doesn’t scratch the finish.
  • Gene Expression posts on the Jews of China.
  • Froggy posts a letter to the editor from a brother-in-arms that challenges the claim that you can simultaneously support the troops and oppose the war.
  • Iberian Notes translates and posts a commentary from La Vanguardia on the aftermath of Katrina that actually portrarys the American people in a favorable light. Savor it! It won’t last.
  • If you’re curious about the actual mechanics of the new Iraqi army being prepared for its mission, Major K. fills us in.
  • Mover Mike notes that the Gulf Coast of the United States is not the only place in the world with dangerous weather right now: a Category 5 Super Typhoon is bearing down on Taiwan.
  • Smash has received a letter from a correspondent who has infiltrated “Camp Casey”.
