Bringing the Police Into Disrepute

I’m not going to link to the sickening video of the police officer shooting a man’s dog dead after stopping the man for recording the police officer’s activities. The dog wasn’t attacking the police officer at the time.

I will, however, ask some questions. Did the police officer’s actions bring credit to the force? Did it make it more or less likely that somewhere a police officer will stop somebody walking a dog who will pull a gun and shoot the police officer dead to defend his property?

I think that bans on private videotaping or other recording of police actions are unconstitutional on their face but that’s beside the point. Is this really what we want the police to be doing? Do other police officers really want police officers to be acting this way?

  • Okay, I have to ask…have you been living under a rock or on another planet? This happens all the time. Police have shot dogs running way from them, in the case of Cheye Calvo the police chased one of his dogs down after they shot it and shot it again until it was dead.

Specific example here and here. In the first case the cops were responding to a woman who complained she had fallen victim to an internet scam. The cops went to her house, ignored the beware of dog sign, hopped the fence, encountered her dog and shot and killed it. Justification: she might be physical danger due to an internet scam. In the second one, the police tased and shot a 5 pound chihuahua mix.

If this incident brings the Hawthorne police into disrepute, then every cop everywhere an in every jurisdiction is in ill-repute.

Yes, there was an incident where a guy was walking his dog, the police approached him because of the hour, they arrested him, and shot his dog, even though the dog was standing next to them doing pretty much nothing.

Do other police officers really want police officers to be acting this way?

Of course, otherwise other cops would not cover for cops that shoot dogs, let alone break the law.

Bottom line: Cops are not your friends, they suck and are little better than thugs themselves. Power corrupts and all that….

  • More here too,

Milwaukee resident Virginia Villo is suing that city for the 2004 police shooting of her lab-springer spaniel mix, Bubba. As part of her lawsuit, she requested police reports of every dog killed by Milwaukee police over a nine-year period. The request turned up 434 dead puppy reports, or about one every seven-and-a-half days.

So about 1x a week the Milwaukee cops kill a dog.

  • It also begs the question of what kind of cowards are we arming and giving vast powers too, who want to shoot a Jack Russel Terrier?

  • Whoops, here is a direct link.

Elizabeth Daly’s terrifying ordeal has gone viral. In April, the 20-year-old college student and her friends were jumped by a team of undercover agents from the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The girls were jumped in the parking lot of a grocery store because the agents mistook a case of bottled water they’d purchased for alcohol. One agent pulled a gun as another jumped on the hood of Daly’s car.

Incredibly, Daly was arrested, jailed and charged with assaulting a police officer because in fear, she attempted to flee her attackers, and apparently grazed one of them with her car.

Because the woman might have bought booze illegally it is perfectly reasonable for the police to jump her in the parking lot with guns drawn at night.

The incident of the water purchase has gained traction in the media, for it’s ludicrous overreach by the police. However, the police state seems to be growing at a greater rate, under the guise of safety, especially in recent years.

In concert with that story is a 4th of July call we had from friends in Santa Cruz CA. Even though they are avid supporters of this administration, their comfort zones were a bit disrupted by the local beaches being cordoned off, with lights placed around these areas, discouraging beach goers from using local beaches during the current holidays. Their comments were, “It’s feeling more and more like a police state around here!

I know, it is incredibly depressing and most people just shrug and figure these people deserve the treatment they get because of other scum bags out there.
