Eye on the Watcher’s Council

As you may know the members of the Watcher’s Council each nominate one of his or her own posts and one non-Council post for consideration by the whole Council. The complete list of this week’s Council nominations is here.

The Provocateur, “Emory’s Corrupt Broken Record”

I agree with Mike that there needs to be closer scrutiny of medical consultancy as it relates to pharmaceutical studies. The list he links to certainly conveys the appearance of impropriety and when you see record-keeping that sloppy you’ve got to wonder if there’s something to hide. I have neither the time nor the inclination to determine whether there’s been anything wrong with the science and, unless there is, you may have a situation in which consultants are paid for but not necessarily bought.

Rhymes With Right, “Obama Policy Speech In Muslim World?”

I guess I’m not as hostile to Muslims as Greg is since I’m not as outraged as he is that as President Barack Obama plans to make a major foreign policy speech in a Muslim capitol. For maximum effect I would think Riyadh would be the obvious pick. Baghdad wouldn’t be bad, either.

Bookworm Room, “Ayers’ life was just a joyous, misunderstood frolic”

Bookworm fisks Bill Ayers’s autobiography from the New York Times. She is not amused.

The Colossus of Rhodey, “Those ‘ol “hate crimes” again”

To Hube’s skepticism about hate crimes let me add the following troubling phenomenon: the number of reports of hate crimes that are frauds.

Cheat-Seeking Missiles, “Ron Gettelfinger Must Go!”

I disagree with Laer’s assessment of the president of the UAW. I think he should consider fiduciary responsibility in his calculations.

The Glittering Eye, “Wisdom and Risk”

In my submission for this week I muse about the viability of newspapers. As I said in comments over at OTB this morning I don’t believe that people are thinking about this subject correctly. There’s plenty of room for newspapers, just not newspapers that are burdened with debt from leveraged buyouts and have priorities other than the newspaper business.

The Razor , “The Obama Enigma”

Scott puzzles over Barack Obama’s actions since his election to the presidency. Basically I think he’s not ideological but rather a shrewd opportunist who’s now doing his best to get re-elected.

Joshuapundit, “The Message Of Mumbai”

I’m afraid that Freedom Fighter has gotten out in front of the facts in what happened in Mumbai last month. He’s repeating the Indian government’s narrative of the events for which we don’t even have official statements from the Indian government, primarily leaks. I also don’t see how you can take away from that the conclusions he draws. For example, how do you conclude from the stated fact that the Mumbai attack was perpetrated by Pakistani terrorists that India is being challenged by its domestic Muslims? I do think there is a problem but I don’t think it’s quite what he believes it is.

Soccer Dad, “Jonesing for jones”

Soccer Dad takes a look at the record of Gen. James Jones, soon to be President Barack Obama’s National Security Advisor, as Mideast envoy. He’s concerned.

Right Truth, “Chicago Politics Just Got Dirtier”

Debbie links to commentary about the arrest and indictment of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Well, I’ve decided which posts I’ll vote for this week. Which posts would get your votes?

  • Hi Dave,
Actually, these are more than leaks…India’s security services have already determined that the Mumbai terrorists had inside help, at least in the form of intel.

It also doesn’t take much logic to extrapolate that since a number of the killers were not apprehended and the borders were immediately closed, the killers who got away had places to go to locally.

Also, as you may have noticed, India has asked for Pakistan to turn over a number of people they suspect of being involved in planning and operations – obviously they wish to interrogate them and find out, among other things, who in Mumbai migft have been involved in aiding the jihadis.

Finally, the radicalization of a significant portion of India’s Muslims via Saudi and Deobandi controlled mosques and madrassahs is an established fact, as it is even in our own country. As I mentioned in th epiece, even if 10% of India’s Muslims are jihad friendly, India has a fifth column of about 12 million people to deal with.

One of my main points in the piece is that due to this phenomenon, it’s no longer necessary to import terrorists into the US ala’ 9/11. A few organizers or trainers can merely stop by the local jihad friendly mosque, ask the imam who he recommends for the mission, train and equip them in a place like Pakistan or even at, say, a Jamaat ul-Fuqra compound in Virginia, Dearborn, Georgia or another location and unleash them.

Anyway, that’s where I get my conclusions from – an dbelieve me, I wasn’t happy about it.

    Regards,
    ff
