Point of Information: Cult of Personality

by Dave Schuler on December 27, 2007

In the commentary on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto I’ve heard and read any number of commenters criticizing current U. S. policy for relying too much on a single individual i.e. Pervez Musharraf and mourning the loss of Benazir Bhutto, noting that there was no ready replacement for her in her own party.

Here’s my question. Is the cult of personality bad or good? Bad when you’re relying too much on Pervez Musharraf, good when you’re relying too much on Benazir Bhutto?
