The Council Has Spoken!

The Watcher’s Council has announced its picks for the most outstanding posts of the preceding week. The winning Council post was Soccer Dad’s post, “3 Spies and Six Days’”, an extremely interesting post on a subject that I haven’t seen explored much before: the role of human intelligence in the Six Day War, the fortieth anniversary of which has transpired. Second place honors went to another post on the Six Days War, Bookworm Room’s post, “’The Six Day War in Real Time”.

The winning non-Council post was Dan Simmons’s post, “Four Modest Proposals For Getting Out of Iraq”. This is a long, rambling, highly-informative post on what’s happened in Iraq since the 2003 invasion and where, when, and how we’re going. This post is simply not to be missed. I was completely unaware of it before it was nominated by the Council and I learned an enormous amount by reading it. Second place honors went to History News Network’s post, “Six Day War—Israeli Perspective”.

I voted for both of the winners: they deserved it. I thought the HNN article was insipid and, worse, a recap of the author’s book so, obviously, there were some Council members who saw it otherwise.

The complete results are here.

Be sure to read “Four Modest Proposals For Getting Out of Iraq”. Highly recommended.
