Life With Dogs

by Dave Schuler on October 5, 2012

Yesterday evening I took Tally out in the backyard on lead, as I do every evening around 9:00pm, to allow her to eliminate one last time before I retire for the night. If I didn’t have her on lead, she’d lollygag forever.

She eliminated and then dragged me over to the gate leading out of the yard. After a few moments she looked at me with a look that said “Hey, chop-chop! I don’t have all night, you know. Let’s get this walk on the road.” A mixture of impatience and insistence.

We walked for five blocks—quite a long distance for her. She wanted more but I didn’t particularly relish the idea of carrying her home.

Makes you wonder who’s actually in charge in these relationships, doesn’t it?

In Tally’s case there’s no question about it. She is.

What’s her weight?

She weighs about 52 lbs.

She would be an armload.
