2006 Iditarod: And They’re Off!

The 2006 Iditarod, the last great race on earth has gotten off to its ceremonial start.  84 mushers are participating this year in the 12+ day, 1,000+ mile race.

The Official Iditiarod Web Site is here.

We’re Iditarod Insiders.  That means that we subscribe in order to receive special content, email updates on the race, etc.  The first musher set off at 12:00pm CST and the 84th just took off a few moments ago.  We’ve watched the departures by hooking a computer up to our TV—only the local Fairbanks television is carrying the start of the race live and this is the only way we can get it.  I suspect that this is the future of highly specialized content like this:  it will be delivered by subscription via your Internet connection.

Every time they’d announce the age of a 40-something (or older) musher my wife would shout “I’m a slacker!” to which I’d respond “You and Tally can skijor the race next year”.

I’ll have daily updates and pictures here at The Glittering Eye so check back for regular Iditarod news!

To Janice—OMG, you are NOT a slacker! just busy doing other things like helping kids, teaching/treating the hardest of all kids to treat/help— presenting at research conferences, making therapy visits to multitudinous venues, —pant, pant, pant— training dogs, grooming dogs, showing beautiful dogs—-pant, pant, pant—AND, i won’t even begin to go into the family-stuff-upon-family-stuff iactivities and concerns, plus, craft and hobby things, normal everyday stuff ‘n such and of course all the high-maintenance on g’eye, wink-wink 🙂 (my much loved bro) So here’s my Iditarod-watcher hat off to you, Janice, the multi-talented, multi-tasking developer of new knowledge/insight in the world—nothing/nobody/nohow stacks up to you, musher or no! Besides, you mush! Ann
